The battlefield of parched bones we hear about from Ezekiel is a lonelier view than a person would usually see wandering in the wilderness. It is a vision of destruction—the evidence of the failure that that led to bondage and exile. The Gospel paints a vivid picture of Hell.

Many of us have different ideas in our minds when we hear the word Hell. When I was a hospital chaplain intern, and on occasion since then, I have heard people say that they knew they were going to Hell—and they were scared.
